The drums are sounding for the upcoming Beijing Olympics thanks to the Chinese percussion group Red Poppy.? The group has been in Sydney recording the dramatic soundtrack for Channel 7's coverage. The mastermind behind the music is executive producer of Channel 7 Sport Andy Kay, who was introduced to the super group by composer Burkhard von Dallwitz."I always had the idea of drums in my head for the theme, and Red Poppy seemed perfect for what we wanted," he said.
The all-female percussion troupe travelled to Sydney this week for the recording session, along with members of Sydney Symphony.
They work hard but the difference is they are performers and not recorders, so they're not so used to getting every beat absolutely perfect. By the end of the process we will have a full three minutes of music, and heaps of different versions that we will use for different things."Red Poppy is renowned for colourful performances, and will also feature with athletes in the visuals for the opening sequences of Seven's coverage.
You won't see or hear it in its entirety until August 8, but it will creep into promos before then." Red Poppy's manager Zhou Li said: "This has been an excellent chance to work together with people from Australia." |
